I Am Action

The "I Am Action" platform was created to help raise money for non-profit organizations, provide transparent information regarding campaigns, and understand where the donated money will go. This holds the non-profit organizations accountable for their actions and providing updates from the affected areas and surrounding communities.

The Task

The main driver of a fundraising campaign is winning an experience with celebrities and influencers. They work with a non-profit organization to sell exclusive merchandise via the I Am Action platform, entering a donor into the contest.

The other feature of the platform is allowing these non-profit organizations to provide updates on campaigns from the beginning to complete the project finally. These updates can come as often as daily to annually.

My Role

As the UX/UI designer at I Am Action, I was responsible for designing the wireframe of the proposed website after meeting with the team and sketching out whiteboard ideas.

My Process

The first thing I did was research the popular crowdfunding websites and evaluate what I felt was right and wrong. These websites ranged from GoFundMe, Kickstarter to non-profit existing donation pages. Along the way, I didn’t realize how many websites already exist and the new ways people are trying to fundraise.

When I found the website that would be our biggest competition, I took screenshots of the site and uploaded them to InVision to share with the team. This was a great way to collaborate with other people in the office to share my feedback and hear others’ thoughts.

When I completed all of the wireframes, I then handed off the designs to another designer to start the high-fidelity designs. Along the way, I helped give design feedback and passed along what I learned from researching similar websites during my early stage of the process.

The Outcome

Being responsible for starting the platform’s design has reminded me of the importance of how planning prepares myself and my team for what may come and not expect anything out of the ordinary down the road. With all of the important features we wanted to include in the platform for launch, this was a great way to manage our expectations and realize where to prioritize our focus along the way.
